In a series of nocturnal tweets, Elon Musk said that he would be eliminating 1.5 billion users from Twitter in the upcoming weeks in addition to adding a new feature.
Twitter is considerably more active than people realize, according to Musk, who added that tweets will soon display their view count similarly to how movies do.
In subsequent tweets, Musk declared that in order to make usernames available for existing users, he would be removing accounts that had not been used in "years."
The CEO of Twitter tweeted, "Twitter will start releasing the name space of 1.5 billion accounts soon.
"These are obviously deleted accounts with no tweets and no log in for years," he continued.
The adjustments occur as Musk steers the business away from a tool that controls users' speech, whether out of political necessity or otherwise, and toward a free interchange of ideas.
Additionally, they come at a time when Musk has made public a wealth of internal documents that demonstrate how Twitter executives have affected the site, suspended users, and limited the reach of accounts and posts to other users.
These papers, which Musk called the "Twitter Files," were made available to journalists Bari Weiss and Matt Taibbi from Substack.
The documents, according to the claims, demonstrate that Twitter's constant content moderation policy was chosen "at the highest levels of the company, but without the knowledge of CEO Jack Dorsey, with former head of legal, policy, and trust Vijaya Gadde playing a crucial role."
